Michael is an accomplished investor and management executive specializing in a wide range of distressed investments, including private equity, institutional debt and equity investments, and corporate, real estate and natural resource assets.
Michael has over 25 years of investment, management and advisory experience serving in key leadership roles in well over 100 transactions totaling more than $3 billion in value. Michael’s experience includes venture capital, private equity and special situation investing in a variety of industries and transaction contexts, with a particular focus on creating value in distressed assets burdened by complex and challenging situations.
In additional to his role with Atlas, Michael currently serves as CEO and Director of a recently-restructured public company focused on impact investing and as Chief Investment Officer of a family office. Previously, Michael was a Distressed Debt Trader and Investment Banker at Merrill Lynch in New York, an M&A attorney with Kaye Scholer in Chicago, a Turnaround Consultant with Conway MacKenzie in Chicago and Cleveland, and a Partner and Investment Committee Member with Resilience Capital Partners, a special situation private equity fund in Cleveland.
Michael is an Attorney, Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Public Accountant, Certified Turnaround Professional, and holds the CFA’s Advanced Certification for ESG Investing. Michael earned an MBA from the University of Michigan Business School, JD from the University of Michigan Law School, and BA from Columbia University, where he earned Academic and Athletic All-Ivy League Honors as Quarterback and Team Captain of the Columbia Lions football team.
